Everyone knows la Gravette, Ponteil and Juan-les-Pins. But the Cap d’Antibes hides a series of rocky coves with impossibly clear water that most visitors never find — because you need to walk the coastal path to reach them.

The Sentier de Tirepoil Coves

The coastal path around the Cap (sentier de Tirepoil) is a 2-hour walk, approximately 4.5km, that accesses a series of natural rock platforms and tiny coves. No sand — but the water is the clearest on the coast, and you will often be alone.

How to get there: Park near the Garoupe lighthouse (free parking, limited spaces), then follow the sentier de Tirepoil clockwise. The best coves are 20-30 minutes into the walk, approximately 1.2km along the path.

What to bring: Water shoes (rocks), water, snorkel mask, and nothing you cannot carry.

The “Locals Only” Pockets

- Calanque des Douaniers (near the Garoupe lighthouse) — 5 min walk, 350m from the parking, often empty
- Rock platforms below Villa Eilenroc gardens — 15 min walk, 800m from the parking, accessible when the gardens are open
- Sous le Phare (the local name for the rocks directly below the lighthouse) — 10 min walk, 550m, flat rocks perfect for sunbathing

When to Go

Early morning (before 9am) for the calmest water and fewest people. Late afternoon (after 5pm) for golden light and the rocks to yourself. Avoid weekends in July-August when locals claim their spots.

These are natural sites with no facilities — no lifeguard, no toilet, no snack bar. Bring everything you need and take everything you leave. Respect the environment.

Are these beaches suitable for children?
\n
The rocky coves are better for confident swimmers and adults. For families with kids, stick to the sandy beaches.

Do I need a guide to find them?
\n
The coastal path is marked, but the best spots are unmarked. A private tour can include the Cap walk with Simon pointing out the hidden spots along the way.
