One day, done properly
Whether you’re on a day trip from Nice or Cannes, or your cruise ship calls at the Riviera, one day in Antibes is enough to fall for it — if you spend it well. Here is the itinerary we’d give a friend.
Morning: market and old town (9:00–12:00)
Start at the Provencal market on Cours Masséna — go early, it’s at its best before the crowds (our market timing guide has the details). Buy fruit, a slice of socca, whatever looks good. Coffee standing at a café on the square, watching Antibes wake up.
Then walk the old town: place Nationale and its arcades, rue de la République, the cathedral square. Don’t rush — the point of the old town is what you find by accident. Our self-guided route keeps you on the good streets.
Midday: Picasso and the château (12:00–13:30)
The Picasso Museum in the Château Grimaldi is compact enough for a lunchtime visit — an hour does it, and the terrace view over the sea is part of the ticket. Planning details in our museum guide.
Lunch (13:30–14:30)
Not on the port front. Follow the locals’ addresses — a five-minute walk inland changes both the plate and the bill.
Afternoon: ramparts, Nomade, Port Vauban (14:30–17:00)
Walk the Vauban ramparts along the sea to the Saint-Jaume bastion, home of Nomade, the giant head sculpture by Jaume Plensa — the photo of your day. Below you, Port Vauban and the Billionaires’ Quay: some of the largest private yachts in the world, parked like cars (more in our Port Vauban guide).
Then a swim at Plage de la Gravette, the sheltered town beach right under the walls — towel, fifteen minutes, done.
Evening: golden hour (17:00–19:00)
The light on the ramparts in the late afternoon is the reason painters came here. Walk back slowly, or climb to the Fort Carré headland for the view back over the town.
Dinner in the old town, then gelato on the walls. That’s a perfect Antibes day.
Short on time?
Cruise passenger with five hours? Market (45 min) → old town loop (45 min) → Picasso Museum (1h) → ramparts + Nomade (45 min) → Gravette swim if it’s hot. Done.

FAQ
Can you visit Antibes and Nice in one day?
You can — trains take about twenty minutes — but you’d shortchange both. Better: one full day in Antibes, and come back for Nice another day.
What is the one thing not to miss?
The morning market followed by the rampart walk — the two experiences that are impossible anywhere else.
Is one day enough for Cap d’Antibes too?
