Where to Eat in Antibes: 10 Places Locals Love

Tourists eat on the port. Locals eat in the back streets. Here’s where to find both.

Traditional Provençal

Le Comptoir des Huiles — small plates, big flavors. Think tapenade on toast, anchovies with roasted peppers, and a wine list that’s entirely Provençal. The owner treats first-timers like old friends.

Aux Pêcheurs — the fisherman’s restaurant, hidden on a tiny square near the cathedral. Bouillabaisse (order 24 hours ahead), grilled fish, and the best bourride (fish stew with aioli) in town. The catch depends on what was brought in that morning.

Fresh Seafood

Chez Lulu (Plage de la Fontonne) — tables on the sand, seafood platters, rosé by the pitcher. Cash only. No website. Legendary.

La Taverne du Safranier — in the old town, specializing in Mediterranean seafood with a North African twist. The grilled octopus is a work of art.

Quick & Cheap

La Socca d’Or — socca (chickpea pancake) fresh from the wood-fired oven. €3. Eat it standing up. Walk away happy. Near the market.

Chez Asinus — paninis, salads, and the friendliest service in Antibes. Perfect for a quick lunch between museum visits. The terrace faces a tiny square with a fountain.

Sweet Treats

Glacier Lakanal — artisanal gelato made with Provençal ingredients. Lavender honey. Fig and walnut. Rose petal. Two scoops, one cone, life is good.

Boulangerie des Pins — not just bread (though the pain au chocolat is life-changing). Their fruit tarts — apricot in summer, fig in autumn — are the best in town.

Modern & Fusion

Les Vieux Murs — creative cuisine in a 12th-century building. The terrace overlooks the sea. Reservations essential. It’s where Antibois go when they want to impress someone.

Côté Cour — contemporary Provençal cooking in a courtyard garden. Seasonal menus only. The chef changes dishes based on what the market offers that morning.

Ask your tour guide (me) for the latest recommendations when we meet. Restaurants come and go, chefs move around, and I eat out embarrassingly often. I’ll point you somewhere good.
