The Cap d’Antibes Coastal Path: A 5km Walk Through Paradise

The Sentier du Littoral (coastal path) around the Cap d’Antibes is one of the most beautiful urban walks in Europe. Here’s your guide.

The Walk

5 kilometers. 2 hours (with stops). Cliffs, coves, luxury villas, and the bluest Mediterranean you’ve ever seen. The path hugs the coastline for almost the entire circuit, occasionally climbing to reveal panoramic views.

Start at Plage de la Salis

Begin where the old town meets the Cap. The path starts as a paved promenade, then narrows into a dirt track as you round the first headland. Within 5 minutes, the old town disappears and you’re alone with the sea.

What You’ll See

• The Billionaire’s Bay — around the first bend, the villas start appearing. Behind those gates: Russian oligarchs, tech billionaires, and European royalty. The most exclusive real estate on the Riviera.
• The Lighthouse (Phare de la Garoupe) — a short detour up the hill brings you to the lighthouse and the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Garoupe, the sailors’ protector. The view from here is worth the puff.
• Hidden coves — several small beaches are accessible only from the path. No facilities, no crowds, just pebbles and crystal water. Bring a towel and a mask.
• The Eilenroc Gardens — the villa’s park (open to the public) has Mediterranean species from around the world. A peaceful detour through the scent of eucalyptus and pine.

Best Time

Late afternoon (4 PM onwards). The light turns golden. The sea sparkles. The crowds thin. By 6 PM, the path is almost empty, and you’ll share the sunset with only a few other walkers.

Tips

• Wear proper shoes — parts are rocky and uneven
• Bring water — there are no fountains on the Cap
• Swim at your own risk — most coves have no lifeguards
• Don’t rely on phone GPS — the signal is patchy behind the cliffs
